Transmission tower and PVC pipe maker Skipper Ltd has tapped export market in a big way. Devesh Bansal, a director of the company, told Business Line here on Wednesday that Skipper expects to clock export of transmission towers worth Rs. 400 crore in 2015-16.
"In the past couple of years, we have secured orders from Spain, Ukraine, Columbia, Chile, Peru and Nigeria. A substantial part of that would executed in the coming year", he said.
Skipper has signed long-term supply agreements with Latin American countries worth Rs. 750 crore. Export order book swelled from a mere 10 per cent in the financial year 2012-13 to 40 per cent of the total order book in 2013-14.
Bansal added that since export margins were better than the domestic market they have been focussing off late on the exports too. Skipper said as of third quarter of FY 15, its total order book was worth Rs. 2,200 crore. This assured a 24-month revenue visibility. In 2013-14, it reported revenue worth of Rs. 1,165 crore.
The opportunities in domestic market for transmission towers and related accessories have also gone up with significant investment plans by power transmitters. Skipper has three production units near Kolkata. Its combined capacity to manufacture transmission towers and related articles is 1.75 lakh tonnes a year.It also planned to enhance manufacturing capacity of its PVC pipes and fittings.
The Rupee-1 stock of Skipper closed over 1 per cent up at Rs. 144 on BSE.
